After leaving to return to Ireland we emigrated to Brittany where we preserve our memories of SVM. I sang in the 'Fete de Music' the first year, so now all tyhe locals know me and I have to behave.
Welcome to S - V - M!

1. Sorry about the Boxing Day details not being up here. I took them off, having been told that this website wasn't going to be looked at until Boxing Day itself, my bad.
2. I'm aware that there's a problem with the Bigfoot email, but thanks for pointing it out. I'll look into that; in the meantime you can send any emails directly to s-v-m@live.co.uk - we've tested it, it works.

On the offchance that this gets looked at in the next few hours, are you performing today, Boxing Day? This website gives details from 1 January but presumably December's diary was on your old website, no longer available.
Also note that your email address given above (s-v-m@bigfoot.com) forwards to s-v-m@live.co.uk which bounces - also defunct?
(This may be a duplicate - on first attempt I wasn't offered "Subit" - only "Add a comment")

Welcome to the new 2008 website for Somting Village Morris
Formed in 1978, Sompting Village Morris are a traditional English morris side with more than 60 members, made up of a men's team, a women's team and a band of versatile musicians. Sompting Village Morris dance many morris traditions including Cotswold, Sussex, North West, and Border Morris.
Sompting Village Morris dance most Summer Wednesday evenings at pubs in and around the Worthing area of Sussex.
We celebrate the traditional festival of MayDay (1st of May) with an early morning procession in Worthing town centre and seafront, followed by the crowning of the May Queen.
For the Summer Solstice (21st of June) we dance down the sun at Highdown Hill with a beacon and processional torches. In the Autumn we promote the 'Battle of the Conkers'.
We dance at Christmas and New Year, also enacting a traditional Tipteerers' (Mummers) play, the local origins of which have been traced back to the 1800s.
We celebrate the ancient Wassail on January the 5th with a torchlit procession down Tarring High Street, accompanied by drums and whistles. This boisterous event always goes with a BANG!
Sompting Village Morris have appeared at many national Folk Festivals including Rochester, Wadebridge and Faversham. We have also danced in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, France, Holland and Belgium and hope to visit other countries in the future.
